How it works:

1. If you would like to request a gift fic, reply to this thread with a genre and a word prompt.

Example:
Genre: Humor
Prompt: Home

*All gift fics must be Ron/Hermione or Gen fics.
*All gift fics must take place between Christmas and New Year's Day. Any time frame is fine.

2. By requesting, you are also volunteering to write a fic gift for someone else. Please only request a fic if you're able to keep the commitment to write a fic as well. It would be unfair if a participant didn't receive his or her gift fic in return.

3. On Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 12am EST (midnight) we will close this thread and randomly pair up requests with authors. You will receive notification of who you are writing for, the genre, and prompt via private message in order to keep the details secret.

4. On January 2nd, 2010, we will open a new thread in the Scribbulous Forum where you will post your gift fics. This is when the paired prompts and authors will be revealed. It should be kept a secret until then.

5. To maintain the spirit of the drabble forum, we are making this a short story gift exchange. Gift fics must be between 250-500 words in length.

6. All gift fics must follow our usual Forum Terms of Service. That means gift fics should include correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Also, since this is a creative writing exercise, Netspeak and smilies are not to be used within the text of your fic. Content must be rated no higher than PG13, and profanity will not be allowed.

7. When you post your gift fic, make sure the following fields are included:

After a long absence due to technical difficulties, Checkmated is back online.

However, there appears to be a number of technical bugs that must be worked out in order to get us back to 100% operational status. The story archive, in particular, seems to have the most issues right now, so we appreciate your patience while we try to resolve them.

Ron/hermione Spring Images!fic Challenge

You voted and we listened. With this new challenge, we hope to inspire seventy-five authors to sign up and write a story about our favorite characters, and have a little creative fun in the process. This will be the first time we've used images for the challenge prompts, and we're very excited to see what your imaginations dream up.

Ron/Hermione Spring Images!Fic Challenge!

How to Participate:
We've chosen a spring theme and seventy-five random images. If you're interested in participating:

+ Choose an available prompt number between 1 and 75, and comment to this post with your number selection. Council will edit your post, adding the image prompt that corresponds to the number you've chosen.
+ Prompts may be claimed only once, and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.
+ Council will edit this announcement to reflect which prompt numbers have been claimed and by whom, but make sure to check the other comments to verify whether or not the number you want has been claimed since the master list was last updated.

Rules and Restrictions:
+ While other characters are allowed, submissions must focus on Ron and Hermione.
+ Stories can be of any genre: romance, action, adventure, mystery or gen.
+ Fics for this challenge must be set in the future. In other words, your story may be set in the years between the final chapter of Deathly Hallows and the epilogue, or the era of the epilogue and beyond, or both. Stories set during the school years covered in the books will not be accepted.
+ The image content of your assigned prompt must be used in the story in an obvious way. For example, if your image prompt is a vase of daffodils, a vase of daffodils must feature in your story.
+ All submissions must be set in the spring season.
+ Submissions must be written from either Ron or Hermione's POV only, i.e., not from Harry's or Malfoy's perspective. However, different types of POV (first, second, or third person) are acceptable.
+ Stories may be rated G to NC-17. Be sure to consult and follow Checkmated's Rating Guidelines when choosing a rating for your fic. The submission of NC-17 fics requires the author to be 18 or older, and have Bedchamber access.
+ The standard 1,000-word minimum applies to all submissions.
+ All other rules and standards within Checkmated's Submission Guidelines will apply.
+ Challenge submissions will not be judged.
+ Challenge submissions will not be edited by Checkmated prefects. BE SURE YOUR STORY IS BETAED BEFORE SUBMISSION. We expect submissions to be free of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and obvious canon errors. Council reserves the right to reject any fic containing too many errors or otherwise unfit for publication.
+ The story summary should include a synopsis of your fic, a link to your image prompt, and a designation that the submission is for the Ron/Hermione Spring Images!Fic Challenge.

Challenge entries must be submitted to the challenge queue through the "Add a Story" page.

Deadlines:
+ The deadline for submissions is midnight EDT, June 5, 2009.
