History is so cool. I love this stuff. Thanks.

Well, that would be an interesting picture wouldn't it? Could you just imagine the dinners at his place?

QUOTE(dindranesdefender @ Aug 14 2003, 03:32 AM) In the 9th century, the Bulgars (a Turkic peoples who were excellent mounted warriors) were ruled by a king named Krum the Terrible. Viktor Krum: the Triumphant Krum? Maybe this is where Rowling got the name? Krum is described as bow-legged and stocky, which is the build of a typical steppe horseman, like Krum the Terrible. Does this mean that Viktor Krum will be using Lucius Malfoy's skull as a drinking cup? If that is indeed who JKR used, I certainly hope he is on the same side as our hero! Egads! He was the leader of a triumphant army, eh? Cool. JKR certainly does use history to draw names. I love it. Sure is nice to have someone who knows this obscure history stuff around, DD. I've just had the coolest vision of Krum leading an army of witches and wizards into battle during the darkest hour. Coming to the grounds of Hogwarts the same way they arrived for the TWT - Rising up from the lake (wouldn't that be a loch if it's in Scotland?) like the black death ships in the Elric series. Landing the ships just over the edge as the fur-clad men and women pour from the ships, running and riding to battle, saving the day. Ooooh, shivers on a warm day. Total coolness. Thanks for the very cool images. You are good at bringing them about, dude. Get writing. That's a plot bunny just for you. I promise to be a better beta if you do. -------------------- |

You know, this topic got me thinking. JKR reached to Bulgaria for a Krum, I wonder if we will ever see a Wallachian named Mircea? If not, guess I'll have to put one in somewhere.
(Three guesses to whom I am thinking about here. -------------------- Intelligence does not mean the same as Wisdom

I like Krum, he seems like a really nice guy. And I can't guess who you're thinking of, hugh. And the whole broom mounted combat would be absolutely awesome! -------------------- "Saying something over and over again doesn't make it true -- unless, of course, you're saying, "I'm obnoxious and repetitive."" -- kremben

What? Not one guess as to a Mircea from Wallachia? Next hint, there have been a large number of films made about him, or at least the image crafted by a gothic romance author.
