Title: No Obstacle
Author: belovedranger Rating: PG Pairing or Gen: Ron/Hermione Prompt: Clouds Words: 300 ~ * ~ Hermione waits. Clouds. Not puffy, playful ones. Clouds hanging low, blanketing the land - begrudging even the smallest striving ray of sunlight. Positively oppressive, they are. That notion makes Hermione bristle. Always has. It’s a mistake; the one afternoon she lets Ron’s persistent pull win out over paperwork, she gets this. She glares at the heavy sky and toes the grass absently. He’d promised “sunshine and fresh air,” hadn’t he? It’s just her luck, really. But she knows full well that the weather’s not to blame for her mucky mood. She doesn’t dare hope that this time, Ron actually wants more than a bit of a fly together. Hermione sighs. No, the problem is that she does dare. She studies the heavens, or what little she can see of them. Ron. Thick as a cloud. Any moment an Owl will arrive, casually letting them both off the hook. Again. But, no... There’s Ron himself, loping across the grass with his fiery hair in streaks - too bright for such a gray day. His broom’s under one arm, a blanket in the other. Hermione blushes. Her mouth falls open. “I thought you’d cancel-” “Cancel? Not a chance!” Ron laughs and kisses her cheek enthusiastically. He easily gets on the broom, gesturing at the spot in front of him. That spot where she’s always wanted to be. She gulps uncomfortably. “But-” “But what?” “It’s too-” His voice drops, but his eyes do not. “Too good a chance to pass up.” Indeed. Hermione looks steadily at him, though her knees shake. Ron’s eyes travel to the shrouded heavens, today’s obstacle. “We fly through them, you know,” he murmurs. She nods, reaching blindly for his hand. Always have. Ron reels her in closer. Her trembling stops. For the thing about heavy clouds... is that they pass. ~ * ~ -------------------- |

Oh yay a new drabble!!!
belovedranger I love it when Ron surprises Hermione like that. This line is so fab! QUOTE “It’s too-” His voice drops, but his eyes do not. “Too good a chance to pass up.” Very nice! And so, here's my little drabble... apologies for it has gotten a bit longer than 300 words. I just couldn't stop writing Title: Riding with the Wind Author: PureBlood Muggle Rating: PG Pairing or Gen: Ron/Hermione Prompt: Clouds Words: 473 She lay on her back in The Burrow's garden. She never really looked at them before now. They were beautiful and ever-changing. Sometimes fluffy and white, other times grey and stormy looking. Right now, they were peaceful, white and fluffy, set off by a brilliantly blue background. If she concentrated hard enough she could see their faces in them. Floating freely in the sky, riding with the wind and changing from one to the other. That one there! It looked as though it was a train of sorts. The Hogwarts Express, maybe. She smiled as she recalled her first train ride. That wonderfully exciting day on which she met him for the very first time. Her smile faltered for just a moment as she recalled the last time she saw him... he was pale, he was peaceful and he looked content, as if he was asleep. A salty tear rolled down from the corner of her eye and made its way down her cheek and past her ear. She wiped it angrily. She wasn't supposed to cry. This was not meant to be a sad thing to do. After all, it had been one of his favourite things to do, whenever he needed to think and have a time out. She had learned that when they had been travelling the length and breadth of the country on their hunt for Voldemort's Horcruxes. She had learned many things about him during that time. Things she would never forget. She would never forget how nervous she was one evening. The one on which she learned that he felt the same way about her as she about him. They had been celebrating his birthday with a few bottles of Muggle beer in the local pub where they stayed that night. Two beers into the night she congratulated him again and he had hugged her then. A hug which meant so much more than friendship and her heart had beaten to an unsung melody that only he could make it beat. Then, his lips had touched hers for the very first time and everything around them vanished. It was just she and him for what felt like an eternity and only a brief second at the same time. Much too soon was it over. Much too soon did he leave her. For the last time she saw him was only one month after that first kiss. He had fallen into the longest, deepest sleep of all. Now she imagined him, wild and free. Riding with the wind and watching over her. She smiled as she imagined him looking down on her and for just a moment she could have sworn she heard her name being whispered by the wind. "Oh Ron..., " she whispered back, vowing never to forget her first and only one true love. -------------------- Avatar by SAYS's Blue_Suede_ShoesS.A.Y.S. Title: Between Dad and Daughter
Author: PrincessRivendel Rating: G Pairing or Gen: Ron/Hermione Words: 328 (oops, sorry) ***** “Go away, you are not welcome here. Not today anyway, come back tomorrow, or the day after, when all this is over and there is nothing left for you to ruin. Go on, do as you are told” No response “I will not let you do this to me, not today mister! I have weathered enough storms to last a lifetime, I will not have you raining on my parade today, understand?” No response Hermione paused and glared at the offending entity, a little black rain cloud that was blowing its way in from the distance, hell bent on settling over the burrow. “Well, not today” Hermione repeated and continued to stare at it, willing it to turn and flee in the opposing direction. “Who are you talking to dear?” Hermione turned to the doorway to see her father, dressed very respectably in his suit. “No one daddy” Mr. Granger stepped into the room a little further. “Are you ready for this?” “I’ve been ready for this for years it seems.” Hermione replied, smoothing her hands a little nervously down her sides. “I am not” her father admitted. “I knew this day would come eventually…but you can never be completely prepared for it.” Hermione felt the first tear of the day well in her eyes, her father had tears to. “But I know and trust you, and it is your decision, and I am sure you have made the right one” He replied. Hermione waved her hand in front of her face to stop the tears from running. It was a very un-Hermione like movement, but Gin would kill her if her make-up was ruined. Hermione took her fathers hand and let him lead her to the door. “You like Ron, don’t you Dad?” “He is a little strange, but a nice enough chap. The fact that you love him is the clincher.” Hermione smiled and took one last look over her shoulder. The grey cloud was gone. -------------------- Cedric Diggory - Proof that hot guys do just fall out of trees

Title (if desired): The Softer Side
Author: Attila Rating: PG-13 R/Hr or Gen: Gen Word count: ~*~ There are only two things in this world that don't make him want to slit his own throat; the second because it reminds him of the first. The rest of his life is a never-ending misery. He hates every part of it. The hooligan kids, the grime, the slime, the wands in his face every second of every day (rubbing it in, those little bastards), the laughing, the ridiculous rules. He can't do what he wants, oh no, can't give any of them the punishments they deserve. He almost had it good once, almost had the chance, but it was snatched away by that filthy Granger brat. What's he saying, they're all filthy. But sometimes, he can get out from under, when those damn kids pause for one second to do something other than ruin his life, he can get away, see the clouds. He has painted the walls of his room in clouds; they are unmoving because he refuses to share his secret joy with anyone who would be able to change that. The only Latin he bothers knowing is the names of the clouds. Cumulus, Stratus, Cirrus. He often recites it like a charm against the filth and noise of the castle. He likes fluffy things, threats of whips and chains and toenails are only retribution, not joy. He first loved her because she's fluffy; the clouds make him think of her. When she's away, sniffing out those rotten troublemakers, he can watch the clouds till she comes back. Big tumultous ones, like her eyes. Whispy ones, like her whiskers. He knows they'd feel just the same. He can imagine snuggling them just like he does her. He stares at the cloud on the ceiling, his own personal cloud purring next to him. He can hear the horrible children, but for now, it doesn't matter. When he's got his fluff, life almost seems worth living. ~*~ This came dangerously close to being Filch/Mrs Norris, but I don't think I crossed the line. I wish I could write an ending to save my life. belovedranger, I can't really think of anything to say but <3 *Love* <3! I love your Hermione-voice. PureBlood Muggle, So sad! I can see Ron needing to watch the clouds, and Hermione needing to do the same to feel near him. Great job! PrincessRivendel, Aww! I love to see father-daughter moments well done like this! PrincessRivendel What a fantastic father/daughter moment! Loved Mr Granger's last line. And Hermione wanting that cloud to go away... organised as she is she probably needed that cloud to leave in more ways than one!

My contribution
Title (if desired): A very useful magnetism Author:Spidergirl Rating: PG-13 R/Hr or Gen: R/Hr Word count:303 (Sorry ...) Hermione Granger was lost in new sensations because of the great kissing skills of her boyfriend. Suddenly she stopped kissing him and looked at her watch. Ron couldn't speak at all for some time, looking at her to ask why she stopped. Hermione smiled timidly as she apologized for her behavior. “Sorry, love, but I have to go. It's getting late.” Ron leaned to her, kissing her neck and stroking her back. She sighed and snuggled into him, putting her arms around his waist. “How many days you will be in Prague?” Ron and Hermione were inside an airport so Hermione could take her flight to the Czech Republic. She was doing some research about ancient magicians for a special report to Hogwarts. She was an Arithmancy teacher there, ever since she finished her studies. Hermione touched Ron's fringe to feel how smooth his hair was - a habit she wouldn't be able to enjoy in the coming days. “I told you that I’ll back in a week. But you will play at Scotland this weekend, so we won’t see each other for three days. So, four more days and I’m all yours!" Hermione felt herself blush when Ron arched an eyebrow at the possible meanings of her words. Ron had gotten the Keeper position on the Chudley Cannons last month and because of that, he was traveling more than usual abroad. The clouds seemed to darken, and the rain would inevitably begin to drop soon. Hermione looked out the window and kissed Ron one more time. “See you next week. Beware of wet clothes if it rains during game time. I don’t want find to you with a red nose.” Ron chuckled and, touching her forehead with his, whispered, “I don’t mind. My animal magnetism works better on you when I’m sick.” ~Spider This post has been edited by spidergirl: Aug 8 2006, 09:19 PM -------------------- All's fair in love and war and this is a bit of both.

Hmm...I had told myself I wasn't in the mood to write one of these today, then of course I started typing. Oh well. If it sucks, knock it down to my mood. Well, I will anyway.
Title: Churning Author: PigWithHair Pairing: Ron/Herm, Harry/Gin Rating: Uh...PG “Anything off the trolley, dears?” Three heads shook. The old witch sighed and moved down to the next compartment. Harry didn’t feel like eating. In fact, he felt quite sick. He was struggling not to think of Dumbledore’s white tomb under that sunny sky, not to think of which compartment Ginny was in, not to go running off to find her, to tell her he’d made a horrible mistake and beg her to stay with him. I did the right thing. I have to protect her. I did the right thing. The words in his head didn’t help. His stomach churned. Sitting across from Harry, Ron tried not to think of the sweet trolley. He hadn’t felt like eating breakfast that morning. Now, he was starving. He was also out of money. The Apparition lessons earlier that year had depleted what little funds he’d had left. Money well spent, he thought, his expression thunderous. He willed his stomach not to rumble aloud. Harry and Hermione would try to buy him something if they knew he was hungry. He didn’t need anything he told himself, trying not to glance furtively at Hermione, She was sitting by the window next to Ron watching the countryside roll by. The sky was cerulean blue with not a trace of a cloud. “It’s a beautiful day,” Hermione observed absently, willing herself not to think of that morning, of Dumbledore, of what lay ahead, of whether or not something was really brewing between her and Ron or if it was all just wishful thinking on her part. “Gorgeous,” responded Ron darkly as he remembered holding a sobbing Hermione just that morning. Author: Angel61400
Rating: probably PG Pairing: R/Hr ***** Ron and Hermione pulled away from each other to look up at the sky, the sound of screaming filling the usual calm afternoon air. The Dark Mark stretched high above them, hovering over Ottery St. Catchpole, illuminating the clouds in a sickening green color. "Come on," Ron urged, pulling Hermione off the ground and jogging with her back to the relative safety of the Burrow. ***** "Hermione!" Ron cried, running toward the young woman and lifting her into his arms. "Are you okay?" Ron asked, setting her feet back on the ground and checking her for any serious injuries. "I was scared when I lost track of you during the fighting." "I'm all right," Hermione waved off his concerns before directing her own at him. "Are you okay?" "I'm fine. Have you seen Harry and Ginny?" Hermione nodded and smiled weakly, pointing to the two teenagers holding tightly to each other near Voldemort's fallen body. Under the dark stormy clouds that had built up during the battle, but which were now beginning to clear up, two young couples embraced. ***** Ron helped Hermione sit down on the blanket before taking a seat behind her and wrapping his arms around her. "I can sit down on my own; I'm not an invalid," Hermione grumbled. Ron smiled. After eight months of pregnancy, he was used to this comment. He knew he was protective of her, but he couldn't help it. Especially now, Ron thought, as he slid one hand over Hermione's stomach and his eyes glazed over in wonder - as they always did - when he felt movement under his hand. "They should always look like that," Hermione commented, leaning back against Ron's chest. "What?" Ron asked, looking questioningly at Hermione's upturned face. "The clouds," Hermione answered, continuing to look up at the soft white clouds. "I hope they never turn green again." Ron nodded, kissed Hermione softly on the cheek, and pulled her more tightly against him. ***** A/N: Hopefully what I was writing got across to everyone, but if not: The first part signified the impending war, the second part signified the time during the war/at the end of the war, and the last part signified the world after the war. Well, I'm in a very cloudy mood today myself, so good choice of topic.
belovedranger, I love Ron flying with Hermione and I very much liked "they pass" at the end. Nice double meaning. PurebloodMagic, This started so simple and built up beautifully. Sad, terribly, horribly sad. PrincessRivendel, Very sweet to see Hermione's Dad. And I liked what he thought of Ron. Attila, You never disappoint. I laughed at the first line. Also, I kept thinking of Fluffy. Fluffy would have been a good companion for Filch. spidergirl, A Ron and Hermione goodbye...glad to see they got some snogging in there! I can't wait to read your drabbles! Here is my own effort.
I don't know what is going on today, I cannot write comedy. Sad drabble coming your way. Title: Clouds R/Hr or gen: gen Rating: PG Word count: 298 ++ She used to watch clouds for hours, until the sun would sink down and Mum would sometimes join her. She could not decide which ones she preferred: the fluffy white ones that looked like pillows or the ones that took the shapes of mysterious animals. No, she decided one day: she preferred the lonely ones, the ones that trailed like lost lambs looking for their Mum. Mum did like the big ones, the ones that looked like Crumple-Horned Snorkacks. On one beautiful clear blue day, a lonely lamb cloud was slipping lazily to the west and she came back home prancing. She knocked on the door of her mother’s little workshop. Mum did not whistle like she usually did. Mum did not let out a small cry like she used to do to advert her from coming in. She pushed the door and she saw with amazement that Mum had created a small crimson lost lamb cloud. Mum was probably trying to take a good look at it from a different angle because she was lying on her back, in silence, her arms to her sides. Then, Dad rushed behind her and yelled Mum’s name. At that time, she could not understand why he took her by the shoulders and asked her with his voice quivering, “Luna, love, please, go up to your bedroom. Now.” She always did what Dad asked her to, so she climbed up to her room and she peered out the window to watch the little lamb cloud. The rumble downstairs indicated that people were flooing in and she could hear Dad cry. Clouds that looked like little lost lambs suddenly lost their appeal. However, Luna did take a liking to the ones that looked like Crumple-Horned Snorkacks. ++ Edited: I corrected small mistakes. A few personnalized comments to you all, inspired writers
belovedranger: I do love the mood of it and Hermione's underlying fears. I could see it perfectly. PureBloodMuggle: Beautiful build-up and heartbreaking end. Gorgeous. PrincessRivendel: A lovely moment, written with a lot of sensibility. Attila: You surprise me every single time. This is great writing: I feel for that man. Spidergirl: Adorable take on animal magnetism. Well done! PigWithHair: The only thing I could think while reading your drabble was, "It looks like a painting." Very lovely one, indeed. Title: Overcast
Author: rubraaura Rating: G Pairing or Gen: R/Hr Word Count: 183 Note: Hermione assaulted me as I was writing a SW fic and made me write this. ** The clouds are dark today. When I first noticed them this morning, I knew it would be a bad day, a day for staying in and hiding from the world, hiding from responsibility. But just because there are clouds, doesn’t mean the world stops. And so, I rose and made morning noises, and left my flat, still mindful of the dark clouds. I sat at my desk all day and worked, productive as always, heart fluttering at every Owl the swooped past my desk, from the opened window, sure that one Owl would be from him. “Hermione,” it would read, “It's nothing but a misunderstanding. When they said I was dead, they meant that I was dead inside, without you... Isn’t that a laugh, how wrong they got it, love?” But even as I watched the Owls flutter past, I knew there would be none for me, not from Ron, at any rate. And when I stepped into the loo to wash the tears from my face, I looked into my eyes, and saw them, the clouds. The clouds that are dark today. ** And, replies! I'm sorry I missed the last 2 drabble prompts. 2 fandoms can be hard work. I promise to do better. belovedranger: So beautifully written, but of course--it’s you! PureBlood Muggle: So sad! Love the idea of Hermione doing something Ron loved. PrincessRivendel: Great little drabble, I love fics with Hermione and her dad! Attila: Poor Filch. An old softie at heart! spidergirl: Very cute! He does have animal magnetism! PigWithHair: Wow! Great ‘missing scene’. I love those types of fics! Angel61400: Me, too, Hermione. That was beautiful, love Hermione in it. RedSioda: Poor Luna! Title: From Broomstick to Matchsticks
Author: vnfan Rating: G Gen Fic Word count: 295 Sirius Black sat hidden in the shadows of the Quidditch pitch watching his godson fly. It was like seeing Prongs again, and his heart ached that James had never been able to see Harry play. He reminded himself to be careful, not to let anyone see him. Harry made flying look like the easiest, most natural thing in the world. In his excitement, Sirius stepped out of the shadows and into the sunlight. As soon as he make eye contact with Harry, he knew that coming to the match had been a mistake, but it was a mistake he could not bring himself to regret. ******************* Oliver Wood sighed as he once again lost sight of Harry in the clouds. "Catch the snitch, come on, catch it," he muttered. Today was already wet and windy, but a sudden clammy cold told Wood that the Hufflepuff team was not what he needed to worry about now. Wood looked around, appalled to see a swarm of Dementors headed straight for Harry. "There goes the game," he thought, and was instantly ashamed that his first thought had been about the glory of a victory and his triumph, rather than about Harry, the boy who had been forced to deal with more than any other on his team. ******************** As soon as he'd felt them, he knew where they were heading. It was extraordinary, really, how the Dementors sought Harry out each and every time, as if they were already serving the will of the one who also sought to destroy young Potter. Dumbledore lifted his wand to slow Harry's fall as he plummeted out of the clouds. ******************** Thwack! Crack! The Whomping Willow hadn't had this much fun since it played with that blue car. This broom will make lovely matchsticks! -------------------- "Don't use words too big for the subject. Thanks for the nice comments, as always!
PureBlood Muggle, that was a very creative use of clouds. I like the way you weaved Hermione's memories in there. It was sad but so warm, in its intimacy. PrincessRivendel, hee, sweet! I can just see Hermione staring down a rain cloud like that! After what she and Ron have been through, I cannot imagine them letting rain ruin their day. Nice job! Attila, that was very cool! And I can see Filch reciting the Latin and trying to block out the ruin and filth of the students. Neat whole mood to your drabble. Spidergirl, they are really going to miss each other! But somehow, I think Hermione won't mind if a rain cloud or two bursts on Ron. I liked the playfulness at the end there. PigWithHair, that was a neat moment in time. I almost felt like a camera was panning among the characters there - you captured some nice feelings. Angel61400, I loved Hermione's line about "They should always look like that." It kind of expressed that new sort of hope for a better place for the baby they're bringing into the world. RedSioda, oh, wow! That was a brillaint idea and so very Luna. Poor thing. rubraaura, oh, sadness. But you're right: the world doesn't stop. Those clouds that are dark for her today may be totally changed on the next day... I hope. vnfan, really neat moments there. You captured them so briefly, but full of memorable images. Bravo! This post has been edited by belovedranger: Aug 9 2006, 01:27 AM -------------------- |

Erm...first of all, angel61400, my apologies. I dunno what happened when I posted my last.
Here goes: angel61400, Nice to see action in one of these. I remember the sky turning green right before a tornado when I was growing up. Good imagery. RedSioda, Really nicely done. Pretty hearbreaking stuff as Luna is so alone already and then with the image of the "poor lambs" and her dead mother...very sad. rubraaura, Huh. We all seem to be in a rather angsty mood. Very dark clouds indeed without Ron. Really effective having her imaging receiving an owl from Ron annoucing that it was all a mistake, a joke. vnfan, Side note: I LOVE the parts of the two boys in the car! Interesting take here including Sirius and Wood. I've never thought of Sirius hiding away, trying to watch Harry play but I really like it a lot. -------------------- More fics by PigWithHair can be found here.

Yet another pathetic attempt from me.
Told from different points of view during the confrontation at the DoM. Author: mench Rating: G R/Hr or Gen: Gen Word count: 200-ish The cyrstal balls in the Prophecy Room were smashed to pieces. Clouds of ghostly seers came out of them, saying things I couldn't care about now. We just have to get away from here. There were at least a dozen Death Eaters surrounding us, clearly outnumbering us. What have I done? I led my friends to their imminent deaths, and the person who we were supposed to save is probably not needing to be saved at all. I should have listened to Hermione. I hope my friends would forgive me. ---------------------------------------- Bloody hell. What have we gotten into? And that crazy Bellatrix LeStrange threatened to torture my sister. I knew Harry was afraid. I am too. I've never felt this afraid in my entire life. I am afraid for Ginny and Hermione. These bloody Death Eaters were ready to kill us. And I know they'll kill us even if Harry would give them the Prophecy. We have to get away from this place. Soon. ---------------------------------------- Oh my God. Why did I even allow Harry to go here? I knew Voldemort was just playing his mind. I should have made him listen to more reason. Oh God. I hope we'll all be saved. I could feel my knees shake. We have never come face to face with Death Eaters, and now they were sending us hexes and curses everywhere. Clouds of dust from ruined furnitures are everywhere, and we can't see our way to safety. I hope the six of us won't get separated. I hope the Order would come and save us before it's too late. ----------------------------------------- First it was Tom Riddle and that blasted diary. Now it's that crazy Bellatrix LeStrange telling Harry she would torture me if Harry won't give her that crystal ball. He stood in front me, shielding me from her. Oh Merlin. Was it a mistake going here and helping Harry? I didn't understand what would we be doing here in the first place. I just want to help Harry. We just want to help Harry. I know I want to cry because I am really scared. But I won't let these Death Eaters from hell see me scared. We'll all get through this. -------------------- avatar by masterofmystery

PurebloodMagic - oh, that is so sad, i loved it though Attila - very well done, made me laugh, alot spidergirl - that was great. saying goodbye is never easy, even for short periods. angel61400- i like how you split it up into sections, very well done. RedSioda - Poor Luna, it made me so sad rubraaura - another really sad one, but i loved it. well done. vnfan - i love it, what a great moment to explore. Mench - Another great one...loved it. Ok, here is another offering from me...came to me in the shower and i just couldnt resist...i am going to stop after this, i swear. ***** Title: All the time in the world Author: PrincessRivendel Rating: PG R/Hr or Gen: Gen lots of friendship Word count: 301 ***** Sirius reclined on his cloud “So this is heaven is it?” “Yeah, and you took your sweet ass time getting here” He looked up at the sound of the familiar voice, and had tears in his eyes before he even turned to his visitor. James picked up his pace, running along the cloud and capturing his long lost friend in a tight embrace. They broke apart an eternity later “Where is Lils?” James looked crestfallen “She didn’t make it” Sirius’ heart stopped. Lilly Potter didn’t make it into heaven and he did! He looked back at James just as he broke into a smile. Sirius captured him in a headlock “Not funny Prongs!” Just like old times. “No, but really, she sent me ahead to get you…the transition can be a little shaky, she didn’t want to overwhelm you. In a few seconds it will all hit you” And it did. Heaven – that meant he was dead, that mean… “Oh god, Remus…and Harry. Harry is all alone now” “They have each other” James comforted, and rested his hand on Sirius’s shoulder. “Besides, we can keep an eye on them from up here” “Really” Sirius sighed. He guessed that would not be too bad then. “Yes really” James smiled and began walking. “And you will be interested to know, that during your transition period up here – which was longer then usually due to the veil doohickie that you died in – a lot of ‘interesting’ things have happened to Harry” “Like?” “He finally kissed the Weasley girl!” “No!” “Yes!” James replied. “And it was a success, unlike his first kiss with that Chang girl” “I never got the full story on that” Sirius smiled. “You will have to tell me one day” James grinned “Sure, we have all the time in the world.” -------------------- Cedric Diggory - Proof that hot guys do just fall out of trees
