Beth, are we allowed to post non-Harry Potter fanfic here? Because I have one Lord of the Rings one that blew my socks AND my pants off when I read it. It got updated tonight so it got me thinkin'....
please tell me if I can here or not, and if I can I will edit this post and write up a link. Thanks Lana -------------------- <a href="http://nimbo.net/quiz/houses.html" target="0"><img src="http://nimbo.net/quiz/gryffsorted.gif" alt="i'm in gryffindor!" border="0"></a>

That's not a bad idea, RMC. I'm not sure how others would feel about it since this is technically an HP forum, and it's assumed that all the fics on the main rec list are HP. Idea: You (or someone) could start a new thread for non-HP fic recs. I know there's a thread somewhere that talks about other fandoms people are involved in (LotR, Buffy/Angel, X-files, etc) so a lot of people would probably be interested. You don't have to make it like mine, but the main list idea has worked pretty well thus far. It's fairly easy to maintain, especially if you're starting from scratch and everyone posts a link. I hope you decide to do that. As for this post's rec, I would like to recommend: Say What? by Fetylum on ff.net. It starts out with an author's note (which is kind of annoying), but the drabbles are absolutely hilarious. It's an easy, quick read that will have you falling out of your chair (or at least I was). I was alerted to it through IloveJames5ever's sig the other day when I was in sore need of a giggle. -------------------- Gone for good. :) Bye, CM! I've had a great time.

Hi Lana,
You're welcome to post a link to the LotR fic if you like, but checkmated is a dedicated HP site, so we do not accept other genre's in our archive. Thanks, Harpinred -------------------- When in doubt, snog a redhead.

Okay, by now, I hope all of you have read the fabulous story The Book of Morgan Le Fay by lavendarbrown. I think it's up to chapter 20 on Checkmated or you can find it on ff.net in it's entirety.
BUT.... there is a sequel. And it is awesome so far. I can't stop worshipping it! If sproutgirl doesn't update soon, this might replace Understanding and Accepting as my favorite Ron/Hermione together fic. I want everyone to promise me they will read it ASAP. The sequel is a little different b/c it switches between Harry and Ron POV. The story is The Final Reckoning. Chapter 6 is probably one of the funniest Harry Potter scenes I have ever read. edited to change the chapter number. This post has been edited by MissBrooke06: Feb 9 2004, 03:45 PM -------------------- Credits. I have to agree with everyone who has noted that Kent and Vixen's dramatic head-turn is so spectacular that it basically ruins the head-turn forever. The head-turn will have to be retired. Like Brett Favre's number. And helmet. And shoes. And towel. [BOMP.] Miss Alli, TWOP

(Fan Fic Favorites thread
This post's rec: Lonely Reign by CinnamonGrrl was actually on pottersues on lj. It's focused on Laura Madley (an OC, obviously), a Hufflepuff who falls for Draco. Tres cute, very good prose...tends to venture into silly territory, and the Mary Sue (i.e. she has no flaws...period) is tongue-in-cheek enough for it not to matter that she is one. Fun read. -------------------- Gone for good. :) Bye, CM! I've had a great time.

I don't know if this is on her, but, "Tripping down the Aisle", "Deflating", "Unrequitted Love", "When in Doubt, Go Leather", and "The Wingman". Those stories are all by BlueBottleButterfly on FF.net. Also, I would recommend, "No Such Thing As a Match Made In Heavan." Thats also on Ff.net, by mystictraveler. Most of the fics by BlueBottleButterfly are mostly Sirius, James, and Lily. The Fic by mystictraveler is an Oliver/Katie fic. I'm not interested in this pair, exactly. But, this one caught my attention and is very good.

I have a couple of recommendations, which I don't think I've seen here before (apologies if I'm wrong):
The Mark of Courage is a Neville-centric WIP set during 6th year. She promises it'll be N/G, but hasn't gotten there yet. The physical transformation she has Neville undergo at the beginning struck me as a bit abrupt, but not completely so, and she accompanies it with a corresponding psychological change that IMO is very much IC. I've also read some criticisms of her treatment of Snape, but I'm not inclined to agree. She's got a good, solid plot going and good characterizations, especially of Neville. Not that I'm biased. The New Professor is an H/G WIP with an intriguing premise and some great R/H in the background--the latest chapter was an absolute kick in the gut. I'm not entirely convinced of Harry as an astronomy professor, but it's a minor niggle. And it features a dead sexy Harry. I'll only recommend completed fics, so.... here's an interesting one where Harry was innocently placed in Azkaban.... Redemption by krtshadow at FF.net located here --> Redemption

At Fiction Alley, there is a wonderful OOTP version from Hermione's POV. It is really well-written, and it has lots of "deleted scenes."
The story is only one chapter away from completion, and the author updates pretty quickly, so it should be there soon. Hermione Granger and the Order of the Phoenix by Ann Margaret |

Okay... long list here. I'll start with the R/Hr pairings:
If the Fates Allow by AgiVega (the link is offsite, but it is up on CM) is a post-Hogwarts WIP, predominantly H/G, but some R/Hr. It's very creative, and it weaves in Greek mythology. Twilight by L.S. Song (also off-site) is a complete seventh-year fic, H/G and R/Hr. It's a bit shaky at the beginning, but it gets really good. L's started his sequel, Ties Eternal, already. Not sure if this one is R/Hr, but it's definitely H/G: Miss Hogwarts by Jenna Mae (also on FA, under Riddikulus) was written before OoTP, but it's hilarious. And also, Lavender Brown's fic is also on Fiction Alley, for those of you who prefer FA to ff.net and PG-13 instead of R(I noticed there wasn't a link to FA, so I put it here): The Book of Morgan Le Fey (Yes, I know it's already been recommended; just providing a new link, folks Edit: Had Barb's stuff here, but was notified that R stuff had to go into a separate forum. I thought it was only NC-17 that was restricted, sorry. Non-R/Hr pairings: Cassandra Claire's (I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet! Or maybe I just didn't see it...) Draco series is a classic that everyone should read, even if it is H/Hr. It's a great fic, and everyone will enjoy it. Draco Malfoy, the Amazing, Bouncing... Rat? by Maya is also a classic must-read, even though it is D/Hr. It's hilarious. Whoa... that's a lot of stories! ~AmethystPhoenix Edit: Yeah, fixed my post up a bit. Hope it's better... These fics are my absolute favorites! You have to read them!
Turning the Corner, by Grace Has Victory. On Sugar Quill, for anyone who's interested. This fics here on Checkmated, though. That Muted Sort of Longing, by Seren. This fic has an incurably sexy Harry in it! |

QUOTE The story is only one chapter away from completion, and the author updates pretty quickly, so it should be there soon. Hermione Granger and the Order of the Phoenix by Ann Margaret Wow! This was an excellent recommendation. I spent a good chunk of my afternoon reading it and am so sad to see it coming to a close. Now, for my recommendations. Please, please, go to ff.net and read all of She's A Star's Harry Potter fic. The stuff is sooo good. She's written a lot of stuff, mostly one-parters and missing moment type stuff. Lots of R/H and Sinistra/Snape, which is hilarious. Most of it fluffy, all of it well-written. I'll give you links to my two favorites: The Bet which is a take on the enthusiasm behind Ron's inquiry into Harry's first kiss. Spontaneously Romantic which is one of her fics that center Sinistra and Snape. Excellent stuff. Read it and than go to her author page. -------------------- Credits. I have to agree with everyone who has noted that Kent and Vixen's dramatic head-turn is so spectacular that it basically ruins the head-turn forever. The head-turn will have to be retired. Hi AmethystPhoenix,
You're new here, so you don't know, but I just want to point that there is a Master List on page 1 where the rule states that no repetition of recommendations is allowed (I know this because I recommended fics that other people have already recommended which pissed off other people, and thus caused the creation of the Master List). Most of those that you're recommending have already been recommended. Just check the Master List. That being said, please note that R and NC-17 fanfic recommendations go on the Smutty Fic Recs and Slash Fic Recs in the hidden section. I am sorry for being a dickhead about this, but rules are rules. Don't let Angelfeather chase you with something pointy. Have fun! -------------------- I had to fold like a great moth and let go.
