We have a topic for fanfic favorites. How about we reserve this topic for recommendations? If you stumble across something new that appeals to you for some reason, go ahead and post it here. If you like what you've read, you can post it over in the Favorites topic.

*No repeats (just refer to this master list)
*Try to recommend at least one new fic.
*Please link to the fic within your post

There is a corresponding list in the Restricted Forum for NC-17 fics.

*chuckling* It wasn't that bad. There really were a lot of repeats in there.

I'll start the ball rolling: Rows, by biggerstaffbunch, at CM. Adorable little H/G vignette. Total fluffiness...you could wrap it around you in front of a fire.

Thanks Angelfeather!

Anyway, a lot of people aren't really fond of ff.net for obvious reasons, but I've grown rather accustomed to being able to pick out the good fic. So since I'm pretty good at nitpicking, I'll be adding ffnet stories a little at a time.

click: come together: a story of magic

This is good but it's unfinished. I'm sleepy, i'll add more later....

*drooooopy eyes*

I like the fic called 'A simple kind of life' and 'Do you believe in Magic'by F0xygrandma15. They are both on ff.net, and also I believe she has the first chapter of 'A simple kind of life' on here.

Also, I love fics by Cashew on ff.net. Her stories are very in depth. She has this one fic called 'Cruel Beauty' which is AU, told from Ginny's pov, and is D/G (The only D/G i like) and has R/H mentioned. The plot is VERY intriguing and surprisingly some of the things she predicted in her fic came true in ootp. I also love her other angst filled fic called 'Shadows' which is a R/H, but from Ron's pov. Her fics have awesome plots. So next time you are on ff.net, check her fics out.

I was wondering that myself, David Ken. There are a lot of great fanfictions on ff.net. smile.gif

I tend not to read fanfiction much these days unless it is humour or parody so my recommendations might be rather old but I wanted to add a mention for:

Cleverness has nothing to do with love by ShellyK

I read this a long time ago and found it both sexy, funny and most of all warm. Shelly imbues her characters with such geniuine happiness that they are always a lovely read.

Actually I doubt any of my other recommendations would go down too well here!

On the subject of ff.net, I think that they have reputation because they do not demand beta reading therefore there are some poorly spelled and punctuated efforts therein. I have to say that there are fics that I have read supposedly beta read that contain truly glaring or simply very irritating errors so please don't be put off ff.net. As someone so rightly pointed out, there are some very fine stories there.

Because it has a reputation for releasing every story anyone wants to write. It can ruin or destroy brain cells, but still be published there. You'd have to have a really good eye to weed out the bad ones. When I started to read them, I got quite a bit of really bad ones that made me have nightmares. I don't want to out anyone through that sort of trauma wink.gif so I'd be happy to recommend things from there as well as other places.

This story is Hr/D, tho, but it's really, really good. Amazingly good. You know me, I'm always giving all fics a chance (except H/H!) so We'll always have Paris is really good. It's on Schnoogle by Melissa D. She got a couple thousand reviews. It's 17 chapters so it's pretty long. But worth the read!

Shadows of Silence by Myth and Legend is also worth a read. Authors summary: Could you live with Death? Could you love with honour? Could you learn with pride? Can he? Find out as Harry enters his sixth year, and the world becomes a more treacherous place for the Boy Who Lived. Minor RHr and HG. Beware OotP spoilers!

It's still a WIP, but as there are only a few chapters left and it's updated every day it should be completed soon.

The answer the FF.net question - About a year ago Fanfiction.net pulled all NC-17 stories. In response to what many saw as censorship, many of the best writers on the site pulled ALL their stories.

In the end you are left with a handful of good stories in sea of horrible ones as there is NO screening of stories. To find the ones worth reading, often means hours of wading through everything else. Readership is down tremendously on the site and it’s really a shame – it was a great site.

They have also taken to removing what they deem questionable -- meaning if they manage to catch a story with too much sex (violence is apparently not a problem) they pull the story and issue warnings, if not completely banish you from the site.

--------------------
"Read this," he said, "I think you'll like it." I should have known better.

It started as a mild curiosity and quickly became more.

It's a sickness really.

There's an awesome author on ff.net, lavenderbrown...she has a great James/Lily fic as well as an equally wonderful Fred/Angelina fic. Look her up! Her stuff is sooo good, and funny too!

"You wankers, you haven’t even started into your third round yet," groaned Angelina, obviously realising how the rest of the night was destined to go.

"Plus the two Short Joys and a Kick in the Bollocks each," George added proudly, accidentally poking himself in the eye and grinning stupidly.

"My God, Weasley, you're completely smashed."

"Bugger that, Bobbit! Where's your sense of fun?"

Elsie raised an eyebrow at him. "It's been scared into hiding."

She is, isn't she? I heartily recommend her Hogwarts Pie -- just friggin good, plus the mild smut, it's a sort of sequel to The Book of Morgan Le Fey -- and also she'd just updated with a new one-shot fic about ron.gif | hermione.gif Chocolate, Cream, and Bossy Boots it's hot and awesome and funny. Check it out.

Plus there's also Arios. Most of her stuff's rated R, so there's some sexual situations happening. Romancing Mr Potter, a wonderful harry.gif | ginny.gif fic, plus its R/Hr prequel See Hermione Score.

What can I say, I love adaptations of other works using HP characters.

edited to post the links to the stories recommended.

Please, please post a link. For those who haven't noticed, I am linking to every single recommended story in the master list (my first post, which I will try to edit everyday). *wipes away sweat*

FF.net doesn't seem to be working for me right now, so a link would be awesome. smile.gif

Spanks!

Oh, and try and recommend at least one story for every single time you post. I am recommending Of Recklessness and Water by the lovely, the talented ThaliaChaunacy, which is located in the steamy Checkmated Bedchamber. Miss Thalia is also the author of the very original Bread and Roses @ The Smutty object.

Edited to say: I'm going to start a similar rec thread in the Restricted Section, so slap those NC-17 fics over there. smile.gif I am leaving those that are already on here for now.

It seems NightZephyr, the author of the Point of No Return (add this one by the way), has a new story up at the suqarquill. It's called Endangered Species. It's only one chapter in but it's interesting.

I have to recommend the fic that right now is threatening to KILL me because it is soooo good and angsty. "Always the Sidekick" by Destyne. You can find it here on checkmated or at FF.net! Excellent fic. I just wrote a scathing review to the author to ream her out for taking ten years off my life.

More than Memories hasn't been reccommended on this thread yet, has it? Well, now it has. icon_mrgreen.gif Wonderful fic. Very R/Hr. Warning, though, it IS NC-17 (for good reason wink.gif )

Argh, sorry! I'm html stupid and can't get the link to work. Anyway, it's by Blue Rain and there is a link in the Shameless Plugs section.

blush.gif Aw, thanks.

Yes, we Blue girls must stick together.

As far as more recs... Enticed by caledon(?) is not exactly a new fic, but it certainly is not old. Beautiful little piece (what would you call it? Vignette, I suppose)

Argh, I haven't read that many new ones lately. I'm missing my R/Hr. I'll have to go read some more new ones and report back.

Ugh... FF.net. I do check over but it is soo difficult. You really have to dig to find the good stuff. And there is good stuff! Really! It's just so hard to find.

I also love the TV show Gilmore Girls and a girl once developed a website where she picked the most well-written stories on FF.net in that category and linked them on her site. It was really helpful and she had excellent taste. I would love it if someone would do that for Harry Potter fics.

On an OT note, can anyone PM addresses of good avatar sites?
